Daniel Answers Your Questions

Postby Noahsark on Mon Aug 18, 2008 10:49 am

Daniel has very kindly taken time to answer some of your questions.

Twenty questions from the Kittens

1) Is the song at the very beginning of Avenue Q (The sun is shining...) performed live each performance or is it pre-recorded?
It’s live. We all stand in a circle and sing it. (Usually trying to make each other laugh!)

2) Who or what inspired your Rod voice?
No one inspired the Rod voice. It’s just something that I practiced and came up with.

3) How do you feel when you come to perform the sex scene in Avenue Q? Do you find it embarrassing when your family come to watch, or were you more embarrassed when it came to the sex scene in I Love You Because?
Lots of people ask this. It really doesn’t bother me at all. It’s only puppet sex!!

4) What is the funniest or most embarrassing thing that has happened whilst on stage in Avenue Q (or in any other show)?
Funny things happen all the time. Becky and I are always having a giggle on stage. We’re terrible! A fly once landed on Princeton’s face much to Becky’s amusement. Whenever any of us forget words, we all laugh. I once fell up the stairs after ‘give us your money’! That was embarrassing!

5) How do you stop getting bored performing the same material night after night?
Well that’s the job of the actor to keep it fresh and new all the time. It would be very easy to go onto auto pilot every night, but that wouldn’t be fair on the audience who have paid money to see the show. Although it’s the same material every night, each show fells very different. Obviously there are days when I’m tired, but to be honest I don’t get a chance to get bored once the show’s started!

6) What do you most (and least) enjoy about being a West End actor?
I feel lucky doing something that I love. The insecurity of it is terrible!

7) Who would you most like to work with (dead or alive) and in which show?
Too many heroes of mine to mention.

8 ) Other than your skills as a performer, which other talent/ability do you wish you possessed?
To speak foreign languages.

9) What was the last show that you saw and what did you think of it?
The Lord of the Rings. I thought it was the most beautiful piece of theatre I’d ever see.

10) If you could cast any musical, which one would you choose and whom would you cast in the main roles?
That’s too difficult to answer. I have too many very talented friends who could play lead roles.

11) Are you tired of signing your name yet?
Not at all. I think it’s nice when I’m asked. It’s nice that people take the time to say hi. I still find it weird when the same person asks for it time and time again though. What do they do with it?!

12) If you could spend a day with anyone in the world who would it be and why?
The Queen. Cos she’s the Queen!

13) If someone could read your mind would they find any surprises?
Don’t think so. I like to think that what people see, they get. I’m a very open, honest person.

14) Which celebrity would you like to be stuck in a lift with and why?
Fern Britten. I think she’d be hilarious company.

15) What are you reading at the moment – would you recommend it?
The Outcast by Sadie Jones. Only just started, but already enjoying it.

16) Do you enjoy any sport and if so which do you follow/support?
Not really a sports fan. I enjoy Wimbledon. Have been a few times.

17) If you could live one day from your life over again what day would it be and why?
My actual birth day, but I’d like to be able to remember it, seeing my parents faces for the first time etc.

18) What is the best advice you have been given, and by whom?
My parents have always been so supportive and encouraging of me and my siblings, and that to me is so important. Always follow your dreams and desires and don’t let anyone stop you from doing what you want to do.

19) McDonald's or KFC?
Neither.

20) What is the most irritating/repetitive question you get asked?
Can you fill in this questionnaire!

Next time we will make it easy for you Daniel. Multiple choice... and everyone knows if in doubt choose 'C'! ;)

Doesn't Daniel realise we are stockpiling his signatures so that when he becomes an international superstar we can sell them on ebay for lots and lots of money!

Emma's T-shirt will make the most!

I blame Daniel's Agent ... he told me to send as many questions as we wanted answered ... and I limited it to 20 - it could have been so many more!!!!

Brilliant Q&A and I have to say I love his taste as regards the show - I loved 'The Lord of the Rings', and the novel 'The Outcast' is the best I've read in ages :cheer:

i had to laugh at the "what do they do with them?!" answer to the signings question!

I nearly fall under that catagory except I'm not an autograph's girl, so it's pictures with Dan that I collect!
